An officer from the Scarsdale Police Department on patrol at approximately 9:20 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 12 spotted a driver in the left lane on Post Road, driving with no headlights on.
When the officer attempted to stop the driver, later identified as Bronx resident Jasmine Ramirez, 27, the driver initially refused to pull over, instead, heading into the oncoming lane of traffic, police said.
During the subsequent traffic stop, police said that the officer smelled alcohol on Ramirez’s breath, her eyes were glassy, and her speech was slurred.
When prompted about whether she had been drinking, Ramirez said she had “a few cocktails,” and had consumed her last drink “a few minutes ago,” after frequenting a local restaurant in White Plains.
According to police, Ramirez struggled to retrieve her driver’s license from her wallet, and she had “poor coordination.” When asked for her registration card, Ramirez first presented a credit card, and later copies of multiple parking tickets.
Ramirez proceeded to fail multiple Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and lit up the breathalyzer when tested.
Following the failed tests, Ramirez was taken into custody without incident. She was charged with driving while intoxicated and aggravated driving while intoxicated with a blood alcohol content greater than .18 percent. Ramirez was also cited for driving without her lights on and failing to maintain her lane.
Ramirez was released following and scheduled to return back to Scarsdale Village Court on Wednesday, Dec. 30 to respond to the charges. Her vehicle was parked in the village and was retrieved the following day, police noted.
